Understanding the Views of Divorce : Tulsa Christian Counselor

There are many different views about divorce when it comes to being a Christian.  There are those that believe it doesn’t matter, you never get a divorce while others believe there are a few reasons why you might consider getting a divorce and some who will get a divorce no matter what the reason instead of working it out.

There are many who believe that divorce is wrong, that if you have any reservations, concerns or problems, you shouldn’t get married, and then you won’t have to worry about getting divorced.  There are those who get divorced because of affairs, abuse of any kind, etc.  If you even see a hint of any of this, it is probably wise to not get married.  Also, taking time to really get to know your spouse to be will help you know if you are making a right decision.  The time you are engaged can be a great time to talk about issues that tend to cause a divorce.

This can come from pre- marital counseling with a Tulsa Christian Counselor, spending time talking and even just hang out with each other’s friends while also making new friends as well.   Some of the things that cause arguments include money, sex, priorities.  When you understand how each person grew up along with their views on these and other things, you will know if you are compatible for each other.

Matthew 19:7-8 says, ““Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?” 8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.” (NIV)

God doesn’t see divorce as a good thing and should be taken lightly.  If you do divorce, why are you really getting a divorce?  Have you really tried everything?  Many times you may have tried everything and still, there will be divorce because the other person isn’t going to change.  You can only do so much to prevent a divorce, but as long as you have tried to not get a divorce you will find you will be o.k.

Just because you are married doesn’t give you permission to do whatever you want.  You need to be committed to your husband or wife.  When you don’t feel the other one is committed to you will not feel like being committed to other one and will only lead to divorce.  When you can start your relationship with a true commitment and keep it going, you will find that divorce will not be something that is considered or followed through with, you will be happy with your spouse and want to stay with your spouse.
